  JKFiles July/August Mapping Contest! - Contests

Hey guys,

Well it's finally that time again; time for a mapping contest! First of all I apologise for the suddenness of this announcement, but I've been so busy I haven't had time to better prepare you guys for it. Hopefully though it's a nice surprise, and shouldn't cause anyone to collapse in shock... wink

Before I go into contest details I want to tell you about one of the exciting features of this contest; we will be doing it side by side with out fellow FileFront network site; Star Wars Battlefront Files. They are also having a mapping contest of the same theme. But what is that theme? Well the theme we are having for both our mapping contests is the planet Taris.

Obviously this wont be a competition between our two sites, it's hard enough to compare one map against another from the same game, so doing it against one from a different game would be too difficult to be practical. Any Star Wars Battlefront 2 map submitted will be competing against other Star Wars Battlefront 2 maps on their site, and any JKA maps submitted will compete against JKA maps on our site. We are planning to keep you updated on the progress of the contest on both our sites however, so look out for news posts on both sites featuring maps from either game.

We're also planning on having our respective sites' staffs work together and getting some guest reviews from SWBFFiles staffers here and JKFiles staffers there!

As I said earlier, the theme for this contest is the planet Taris. Me and Maveritchell, the manager of Star Wars Battlefront Files, got together and after some discussion settled on the planet of Taris for the theme of our respective contests. Taris is a planet with plenty of different environments to explore, with an Upper, Middle and Lower City, and Under City, Sewers a Sith Base and more. This should hopefully provide you guys with plenty of mapping opportunities!

The contest will start officially tomorrow, Wednesday 7th July and will run for around a month, although that is an approximate deadline, the actual deadline has not been firmly set just yet as we will be co-ordinating it with SWBFFiles.

I will be posting a new item tomorrow detailing the contest rules and what you need to do to enter, as well as some useful links to visual reference material.

I look forward to seeing what the mappers in both our great communities can make for this contest!

Posts: 547 		Ah, a new contest! Aw, too bad, though. When I actually have enough skill at something and a contest goes on for it, I'm unable to do it. XP Oh well, maybe I'll just get a laptop with XP built in just for Radiant, so that way I get a good computer to run it on (unlike my old one, which is still unhooked and has no where to hook up to at the moment), and keep my two-year McAfee Security on this good one. =D (found a good one today at lower than $400, and it's even got the Num Pad! What an offer! Hope I can get enough money soon) =d

But, in any case, I don't think I'd be able to do this anyway. I'm absolutely horrible at replicating something from Star Wars, and from a planet I had hardly heard of before? Yeah, I'd need some kind of 'supreme God luck,' rather than puny old 'good luck.' XP

Posts: 315 		hehe, I feel like I goaded them into this. >.> Too much work for me though, I need to focus, so infact I'm not gonna participate. frown Besides, my kotor is dead due to stepping on disks and losing the rest due to heavy dislike of the game, and I hardly remember any, and I don't wanna make a star wars location that ISN'T like the canon one. stick out tongue
