Yes, I will definitely partake if you ran another contest! I swear it! But maybe you could have the contest's theme decided by the community through your next poll...?

I would, as long as it has a more...broad modding medium. Modelling and mapping are hard to master and, especially modeling, do very few people do. Maybe choose a topic and allow the contestant figure out what it is: a mode, map, skin, menu, etc.
#6 - Posted by: MagSul (Member) on 05-04-2012 at 23:20
My participation depends upon what kind of contest it is! If it's mapping, I'll at least consider it.

I'd like to, I was trying to make the last weapon modelling contest, but being the noob I am, I spent all my time learning to fix problems and not enough time making a cool weapon .
#8 - Posted by: GarynDakari (Member) on 05-07-2012 at 23:43
I suppose it depends on what the contest is....If it's skinning, then no way, since I can't skin at all.
If it's something else, like mapping or modeling....I dunno. I'd like to, but I've been pretty busy lately, and haven't even been able to dedicate much time to modding in general -_-

Sorry, it was the middle of the night for me when i posted that, and when i thought of Africa my immediate thought was that most of Africa does not have computers or internet connections, i completely forgot about South Africa and other more technological countries there. My apologies. In my defence i was half asleep at the time!

Doh sorry again, i thought of putting in South East Asia but completely forgot about it. I also forgot Australia and New Zealand, many apologies to our Aussie and New Zeelander visitors!

Well, as you may have noticed, we have not had a new POTD for quite a while now. I can assure you however that this is not me being lazy! Unfortunately another bug has popped up in the backend, which basically means that we are unable to validate POTD's currently.
I apologise for this latest bug, but the tech people do know about it and i will keep you updated as soon as we hear anything on when it might be fixed!

Is anyone else having trouble downloading the maps? Keep getting some sort of 'website restore' error because the page keeps closing down and attempting to recover =(
Just from the pics though, the others look downright amazing.
#3 - Posted by: Zurvan_Akarana (Member) on 03-26-2012 at 03:43
A winner is you, Nozy! Your map is almost perfect, the only thing I missed were specular lights or some sort of reflections on the crashed satellites' solar panels.
I can't vote yet, however, because (much to my chagrin), attempting to download the Pluto Base map results in a "Page not Found" error, and I would have preferred to take a look at all three of the maps before casting my vote.
PS My game's working again. Turned out that widescreen users sometimes have to tweak with the settings in their jaconfig before the game runs smoothly.

I voted Falcon, because it has Mando toilet paper. This does bring up a massive issue I have with Star Wars - it covers millenia, yet technology doesn't make huge leaps forward. Compare the tech they have in the Old Republic era to A New Hope.
#2 - Posted by: GarynDakari (Member) on 02-28-2012 at 12:56
Who would win in a fight? The Falcon. The Ebon Hawk hardly has any weapons at all, and it couldn't take nearly as many hits due to being smaller.
Which ship do I like more? The Hawk. Probably just because I lived in it for two games though
#3 - Posted by: SonofWindu96 (Member) on 02-28-2012 at 17:22
While the Ebon Hawk holds a special place in my heart, come on. It's the MILLENIUM FALCON. Piloted by HAN SOLO and CHEWBACCA. /endthread

#5 - BOTH - Posted by: MatthewStarWars (Member) on 03-09-2012 at 07:49
I like both the same for different reasons, I played the rouge squadron games when I was little and I loved being in the falcon in the battles, it was awesome, and still is, the graphics for rebel strike hold up to this day if you ask me!
and I love the ebon hawk as I also played a lot of kotor when I was little and still do! It feels like home to me, I place to head back to and stay, especially in kotor 2 when on dxun, the rain outside and I would go into the hawk to stay dry, ah..listen to me get carried away about my childhood....
#6 - Posted by: SithLord_Darkon (Member) on 03-12-2012 at 13:53
Oh, please... a top-line custom retrofitted ship like the Hawk against a patched-together pile of scrap like the Falcon?
The Ebon Hawk would wipe the Falcon off the map!
It has more weapons - that part in KOTOR2 at the beginning when you, as T3M4 move on its surface proves it: like the Falcon, it has two turrets, but it also has heavy laser cannons facing forward. It can focus more firepower, and I wouldn't be surprised if it also has more shielding, considering how much punishment it can take when fired on by the Sith fighters.
The only thing the Falcon is better is its tricked-out hyperdrive - so it can run away from the Hawk! But that's all.
#7 - Posted by: jkbuzzy (Member) on 03-18-2012 at 23:31
The Hawk was only used to deliver spice...read up on the weapon layout on Wookieepedia. The Falcon has way more weapons, higher-grade shielding, faster, and it's piloted by Han Solo. Seriously guys....? I'm tired of the SW Noobs on here who are butt-happy about ToR.
#8 - Posted by: jkbuzzy (Member) on 03-18-2012 at 23:33
The Hawk vs the Falcon is the same as saying what's better; a horse-drawn carriage or a Ferrari. The Falcon is a wayyyy later version of the Hawk. It's like a (correct if wrong) 500 maybe even 600 year difference. The Hawk is outdated and would get WRECKED

Saw Episode 3 on opening night. Still have my ticket stub. Some guy dressed his young kids as C3PO and R2D2 and they were not happy. It was pretty cool when some guy dressed as Mace Windu and another dressed as Darth Vader (who had never met before) both brought out their Force FX lightsabers and had a fight infront of the screen before the film started.
Somehow, I don't think Mass Effect 3 will have that same remember-it-forever feeling that I got that night.

I remember going to the midnight premier of Star wars episode 3, so many cosplayers, we had one hour to kill till lights out and show started, so the staff and costumers on the theater stage, started a live saber fight for our entertainment, the fans went crazy tho soon as this 6'8" vader walked onto the stage, I heard from my mother how big a deal "a new hope" was back then when she saw it 12 times at the theater, so I couldnt refuse to see the hype
#6 - Posted by: GarynDakari (Member) on 02-26-2012 at 14:32
Mass Effect 3 for sure.
Back when Ep3 came out, I hadn't even seen Ep2, and I didn't get to see either one until years after their releases. Plus I think everybody knew how Ep3 would end anyway...
Well, I'd certainly love for the bugs to go <poof>... I really hate that the site is always glitching.

#7 - Posted by: OandO (Member) on 02-07-2012 at 05:57
The interviews are a nice idea as a little additional thing, assuming there are enough people around with interesting stuff to say. Personally I don't tend to read many of the news articles at the moment, so it might be interesting to get a bit more community interaction.
I also reckon if the reviews were a little quicker (Obviously bigger mods and packs of things are going to take a while, but I mean smaller things like individual skins and models) it might encourage a few more people to submit their work.
#8 - Posted by: Sinchiss (Member) on 02-09-2012 at 05:42

#11 - Posted by: Darth_Spock (Member) on 02-11-2012 at 12:01
Other; Im not really sure which poll option fits my thought best, the main thing Id like to see are more new files. I guess that means faster reviews if the files are being submitted. It seems lately though that there arent near the number of submissions these days either. My second thought then would be for the contests. Something to help stimulate more submissions, from old and new users. i.e.: instead of a general skinning contest, one that focused on something specific, like having an animated shader. It could open new doors for newer modders, and provide a direct objective for experienced ones, and possibly yield some very interesting results. Just a few thoughts from a burgeoning, wanna be modder.

Do it yourself, perhaps?
If I'm not mistaken, there's quite a few eager souls looking to try and get them out into the open. Y'might as well pitch in and try and clean out the queue by volunteering time on the back end. Smeg and Nozy have lives, busy ones at that, and can't lend every second to this site. Hell, usually what kept me coming back was when I heard the queue was so backed up into last month.
...So yeah, only way to get something like that done is usually to do it yourself.
#15 - Posted by: Ryojin (Member) on 02-16-2012 at 14:27
I'd have volunteered to review again, but I heard that there were problems with getting the accounts and logins set up. It was implied that new volunteers were out of the question because of that. If I just misunderstood, then I'm more than willing to get back into it.

I have no idea what is required to be a reviewer, or how on earth its done, but if all that is needed is people power, "many hands makes the load light," then goodness knows I can download something without a review then write my thoughts as well as download a file thats already been reviewed and think my thoughts.

I was stuck on the bugged front page, despite refreshing.
Then I appended a / to the end of the URL and it fixed it.
Then I appended a / to the end of the URL again and it went back to the broken front page.
I kept flicking between the old frontpage and the newest frontpage using this method of simply applying a / to the end of the URL: http://jediknight3.filefront.com
Don't know if this is already known or not but it seems to work every single time for me, whereas refresh doesn't always.

Kind of determine how much I enjoy the site. I can't comprehend how anyone can go to a website where the home page keeps reverting to one from almost a year ago at no prompting and doesn't allow us to see new files.
I quite like the site, allows me to download straight from Gamefront, but I'd have to agree with bkev... Frankly, I'm almost sick and tired of refreshing the page until I get the new one, and I'm not seeing as many files uploaded as other people who use the site used to...

#3 - Posted by: Ryojin (Member) on 02-01-2012 at 15:14
I'd say it's gone downhill. To begin with, there's hardly ever any new files (But that may just be due to a lack of people submitting, I can't be sure), the polls aren't very interesting, and I'm still wondering if anyone is gonna do anything about a certain file I've pointed out (on Dec. 11th) that uses sounds and textures taken straight out of another game. I'm not even going to get into the bugginess of the site.

Tactical Weaponry and Warfare meets JKA - Mods Posted by: NOZYSPY on 01-25-2012 @ 10:39 - Source: http://www.gunslingersacademy.com
This News Item has been viewed 5434 times!
Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy News
For quite some time now, a relatively underground modding surge has been sustained by Silverfang and eezstreet. But just recently, the latest version of their project Gunslinger's Academy has hit Moddb with increasing numbers. While this version is a little too rough yet for JK2Files, the mod is ripening exponentially.
In case you aren't aware, Gunslinger's Academy is a visceral shooting experience that goes toe-to-toe with Raven Software's Soldier of Fortune II in terms of gameplay and fun factor overall. In all there are around 25 weapons which are all unique in terms of feel. On top of that, there is support for themed maps, which have special unique weapons. For example, you could create a Star Wars map which uses only Star Wars weapons and not have to change mods.
This helps the modding community greatly, as all weapons are softcoded and there is no extra coding period to make a new weapon.
A full list of features follows:
- Over two dozen weapons modelled and ingame
- Completely new combat mechanics, including aiming down the sights and sprinting.
- Advanced shader-based impact effects. For example, hitting a metal surface reacts differently than hitting a wooden one.
- Achievements system with dozens of goals to set for yourself.
- Loadout system
- 3 new maps
- Change color codes to be whatever you like
- 5 new gametypes in the works: Hero TFFA, VIP Escort, Commander Escort, Domination and Ninja
- Instagib and Hardcore modes
- Completely overhauled weapons system with fully moddable internal mechanics. No coding needed.
...and that's only what's been done. More will come soon.

Heartbroken... sure its time came... and probably had something to do with how most of its members were leaving for TOR... but it nonetheless gave way to it being the first Star Wars MMO. Kind of a milestone there in the Star Wars franchise history. It had its ups and downs (Mostly downs.) but who doesn't miss running around in Tansarrii Station and doing quests for NPCs and eventually landing to Tatooine to pursue the Legacy line? ... Well, it's good to know SOE actually made a 'memory book' for it... albeit a bit stupid, but at least it'll bring memories of the game to fans like myself and others. Now it's up to TOR and CWA to continue the Star Wars MMO franchise...
#2 - Posted by: NOZYSPY (Staff) on 12-19-2011 at 06:17
Bleh, Clone Wars Adventures looks naff, not really an MMO as such. :S I played SWG for 6 years on and off, i came into it shortly after the CU and just before the NGE.
The game should have died with the horrid 'New Game Enhancements' but it somehow kept on, and once the dev team got some new members, things started getting better. I have to say, with the new quest lines, so many new items and new weapons and armour as well as the fun heroic quests and battlegrounds and stuff like atmospheric flight, they really pulled that game back together and showed what its potential really was. If only it had all come sooner!
Im going to miss running around the wilds of Tatooine, taking a holiday to go explore the Massassi Temple ruins on Yavin 4, putting a house down in a beautiful spot on Dantooine and especially decorating my house and several museums (one for art and archeology, one for science and industry and one for natural history!).
Farewell SWG you will be missed!
It is now up to SWTOR to take up the torch, and i have to say so far i am loving it, though it is more akin to KOTOR Online, rather than the truly unique sandbox MMO that SWG was.
I know some people hate Bioware and TOR for taking SWG away, but you have to remember, SWG would have to be shut down eventually, nothing lasts FOREVER. Its a shame the two games could not exist side by side, as SWG had years of life left in it yet. But considering the huge $100 Million EA and Bioware is meant to have spent on SWTOR you can understand their reluctance to have another Star Wars mmo keeping its players away from TOR.
Lets hope Bioware puts in some more sandbox features in future! You never know!
Of course there is always the Star Wars Galaxies Emulator Project...
#3 - Posted by: Jonny2199 (Member) on 12-21-2011 at 18:46
Never really got into SWG. Dabbled with the trial, but it was far too big for 14 days! I did, however, get into the TOR beta which was overwhelmingly WoWish. It reminded me how Battlefield 3 (which I happen to like rather a lot) was hyped up to be the COD killer but it took so many little design features from its competition.
TOR plays a lot like WoW and I just can't get into that sort of thing. Age of Conan and DCUO are free and pretty darn fun. Among others, Star Trek Online is going F2P as well, so that's another game I'll play. I don't think I could ever justify paying monthly since I can't play one game that much.
Hopefully, the Star Wars game after TOR will be alright. There are plenty of gaps in the galactic timeline to fill and perhaps we will once again get that wonderful combo of gameplay and story.

I voted for the graphic version. It shows some of my favourite (and therefore, the best? Hehehehehe...) maps that people have made for this game, and kinda sums up what this site is about.

Definitely the GRAPHIC version.

#4 - Posted by: Sinchiss (Member) on 12-12-2011 at 04:57
I'm still pretty happy about the one we've got now, but if it has to be one of those two I'd say the graphical version.

The graphic version looks more personalized to this site, but I personally thought that the plain version looked better from a design standpoint. Perhaps some sort of compromise could be found?

Across the bar sat a young man dressed in black, talking on a commlink to someone.
"Yeah. They're here. I'd approach them, but I'd get killed in an instant. We still up for Lester's tonight? ... Good. I'll see ya then."
The man hung up his commlink, and watched the two new arrivals.

"They're on to me..." the man thought in his head, "I'd better get out of here before the realize who I am."
Unbeknownst to the two Jedi, the man planted something underneath his table, concealed by a Force-disrupting cloak of some sort, and left the bar.

A tingling occurs at the back of Dralen's skull as he notices a man try to unconvincingly sneak out of the cantina. "I'll be right back". Dralen quietly follows the man outside....

When Dralen arrived outside, the man was gone, and there were no traces of him.

Drexz: "Ye, why?"
Aldor: "Do you know him?"
Drexz: "Not really. He's been comin' 'ere a lot the past few days, heard 'im yappin' about some bounty or sometin'..."
Aldor: "Have any leads to how we might find him?"
Drexz: "Ehmmm... Well I know these guys who hang out wit 'im a lot. One's called Kype and the other one's Lester. They both live across the street from the ol' droid parts place past the market. Why ya askin'?"
Aldor: *finishes drink quickly* "Thanks for the help, Drexzy. Gotta go." *goes off to find Dralen*

//jedi_hm2 seems to have RP Deadmerit tenoncies....//
A lone man, looking to be in his late thrities, with a rugged face and an eyepatch over his left eye, entered the building and walked over to the bar.
"Blue Milk, if ya got any." he growled.
#13 - Posted by: JA_394 (Member) on 12-08-2011 at 07:10
The man arrived at Lester's house, where the man himself was waiting for him.
Lester: "Hello, Jahn. What brings you here on this fine day?"
Jahn: "We have a situation. The Jedi are here. Grab Kype. We need to go. I planted a bomb at the bar across the street."
Lester: "How long 'till detonation?"
Jahn: *Pulls out a remote detonator*
Lester: "Ah... *Runs inside to fetch Kype*
Jahn: *Follows*

*Across the street from the cantina*
Dralen: "How much for the two Z-95's?"
*A gyspie-looking woman with sand colored skin and dark green eyes is selling speeders*
Gyspie: 50,000 credits
Dralen: 0_0 "Lady are you out of your mind?! For that piece of junk?!?!?! Fine, here......"
Gyspie: "A pleasure doing buisness with you my boy..."
Dralen: "Shutta."
Dralen hops up on one of the speeders and scours the outskirts of Mos Espa, looking for anything suspicious. He comes up on a deserted hut and dismounting, discovers words KARLO HOMESTEAD on the side of the hut.
Shocked, he takes out his comlink: "Um, Aldor, there is a paid for speeder directly across from the cantina. Take it and meet me out the coordinates i'm sending to you. I think i have found ssomething........"
Meanwhile, back at the speeder dealership the gyspie woman enters her private room and contacts someone via hologram: "Jahn, you will not believe i who i just sold defective speeders too........"
#15 - Posted by: JA_394 (Member) on 12-08-2011 at 15:55
Jahn picks up his commlink to respond.
"Let me guess... those two Jedi? ... I knew they wouldn't sit there for long! Listen, stay low. Don't act unusual. Once the speeders short out, get out of there, and take the 'package' with you."
Lester: "Jahn, we're ready to go!"
Jahn: "Lester and Kype are ready to go. If all goes according to plan, I'll speak to you again in two weeks." *Closes the channel*
Kype: "Where's the target, boss?" *Cocks rifle*
Jahn: "Somewhere across town. We need to leave. Is your stealh Gallofree Personal still here?"
Kype: "Affirmative."
Jahn: "Good. Let's go."
The three men head outside, where Kype decloaks his transport. They head inside, cloak again, and take off.
Lester: "Where we heading?"
Jahn: "Raxus Prime. The entire planet has been made a fortress by our Engies. Kype, set a course."
#16 - Posted by: Ty294 (Member) on 12-08-2011 at 20:29
Meanwhile, the man with the eyepatch finished his drink and strolled outside, where a being in dark cloak met him.
"When Aldor comes out, I'll confront him. You are only to provide emergency back-up." the man with the eyepatch growled.
"Affirmative." the cloaked being said in a cold, soulless voice.
The cloaked man vanished quickly, as the one-eyed man leaned up against the outside wall and lite a cigar.

Dralen:Sir, I believe you have some explaining to do. (comlink) "Aldor, watch your step as you come outside. We have a situation here......
#19 - Posted by: Ty294 (Member) on 12-10-2011 at 08:34
//How can Dralen instantly return to the town after being out at the homestead? No matter...//
A disruptor blast suddenly wizzed by Dralen's head, destracting him for a split second. Ty used the opportunity to sweep the Jedi's feet out from under him, causing him to fall to the ground, while at the same time drawing his slugthrower pistol and backing away.
"Don't get too cocky, Jedi." Ty taunted, as he kept his pistol trained on Dralen's face, one false move and an undeflectable slug would be imbedded in his head.
//FYI, a "slugthrower" is basicly a real-life gun in Star Wars terms. The bullets are undeflectable by a lightsaber.//
The mercenary then moved himself behind Dralen, so that he could keep an eye on him and the cantina door.
"A word of warning Aldor!" Ty shouted, "If you try the back door you'll be in for a nasty surprise. I'd advise you toss that saber of yours out the front door and come out.
#20 - Posted by: SonofWindu96 (Member) on 12-10-2011 at 10:14
/// He sensed something was up and returned to town on the speeder....///
"If you two pistol-jockeys think you can take me and my partner down that easily, you obviously have no idea who you're dealing with...."
Using Knight Speed to get to swiftly get to his feet, he simultaneously melted TT294's shots with a barrier of blue flames and blasted the mercenary behind clear across the street and into a fruit stand with the Force. The heat from the flame barrier warped closed the barrel on TY294's slugthrower, as Dralen drew his DH-17 and fired.
Meanwhile, over Tatooine looms a Mon Calamari corvette. Jered Karlo, Leader of the Zeison Sha, paces the bridge, deciding whether or not to follow his brother....
#21 - Posted by: Ty294 (Member) on 12-10-2011 at 21:14
//You really overestimate the abilities of forceusers. It's note like you can sense something and be back that quick. Futhermore, a bullet is near-instant.//
Ty leaped out of the fruit stand, as the laser shots struck the wall behind where he had just been. Ty drew his L-44 Mag and opened fire from the ground.
"If my shotgun wasn't in for repairs." the merc muttered.

After exiting the system, Jahn realized he was not alone in the cargo hold. There was someone there with him. He walked over to the man, who looked old and unshaven.
"What are you doing in a Black Pirate transport, you crazy old hermit?" he asked the man, sitting down beside him.
#24 - Posted by: jedi_hm2 (Member) on 12-11-2011 at 06:20
Meanwhile, Aldor was a bit confused at what was happening. He exited the cantina through the cellar, avoiding any surprise that would be waiting for him at the back door.
Climbing to the roof of the cantina and sees a sniper, about 400m away. He took out his DL44 heavy blaster pistol and shot the sharpshooter with the use of the scope.
Quickly then, he turned to find Dralen dodging blaster bolts coming from the market's fruit stands.
Aldor quietly sneaked behind the stand and disarmed Ty, taking his arms and head into a tight submission lock.
"Hey Dralen, gimme some help with this guy! He's one tough son of a Krayt!"
"Get me a rope or something... Quick! Ghaargh...!"
Ty struggles to get loose...
"Rargh...! I'm considering just killing you! And believe me, I would do it ten times if I didn't have to interrogate the hell out of you!!"
Meanwhile, back on the Black Pirate transport ship....

Aldor suddenly had a distruptor shot go right in between his legs, inches from... a very unfortunate place. Suddenly, he realized he hadn't killed the sharpshooter, but just an unfoturnate maintainance guy on the room. The real sniper, whom he could not see, was still out there someplace.
Ty, thankfull his accomplice had been considerate enough to only distract the Jedi, rather than kill him as he clearly could have, used the moment to muscle his elbow into the Jedi's stomach. With the grip losened, the muscular merc was able to get free and followed up with a punch to the Aldor's face, sending him flying back into the wall. Knowing Dralen would be on him in an instant, the mercenary whirled around and revealed a pair of weapons he had pulled from his beld: a pair of lightsabers.

//Oh, and the sniper is a named character of mine. I don't know if we want an immunity rules for certain characters if the authors want or if everything is fair game (which will be chaotic).//
//And one more thing, the sniper is a trained assassin who possesses a personal cloaking device, so even though you Jedi could easily subdue him if you found him, your chances of actually finding him are next to nothin'.//

//Force sense... //
"Argh... Next time you won't be so lucky, cause there won't be any sniper and I'm not gonna spare you... coward!!"
Both of the Jedi run after Ty...
"Gimme back my lightsaber you thieving Hutt-slime!"
Aldor whispers/says quietly to Dralen: "Give me your lightsaber, you get the sniper!"
Dralen nods and goes off to find the sharpshooter...
Aldor uses force speed, followed by a force push, knocking Ty to the ground. Aldor force-pulled his lightsaber back into his hand.
Ty then quicky gets up and says: "Would you just get off my back?!" Afterwards throwing a sonic grenade towards Aldor, blowing him away into a smelly, garbage-filled alley...
