- Why call it JK3? It's not a full Jedi Knight sequel.
Actually, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is JK3, and a full Jedi Knight sequel. LucasArts has announced that it is indeed the third full addition in the Jedi Knight saga, and thus suitably called by the fans "JK3". We at JK3Files.com have chosen to refer to it by the same nickname. JKJA is just not what people use.

- Is the main character Kyle Katarn again?
No. But you will run into him in the game. It’s either one year or six years (conflicting reports) after he defeated Desann and he's now an instructor at Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy.

- Who will I be then?
That’s entirely up to you. You’ll get to choose your race, gender, hairstyle, face and clothing. There are over 2,000 possible combinations. The game will choose your name for you. Even your saber will be custom. With fifteen hilts to choose from (maybe more) and six colors for your blade, your saber will be somewhat unique (though, your saber blade length will not be modifiable).

- What races are available to choose from for Single Player?
So far, Human (M or F) Rodian (M only) Twi'lek (F only) Kel Dor (M only) and Zabrak (F only) have been confirmed. Whether they add the missing genders has yet to be determined.

- What’s the story?
Roughly, you are a Jedi-in-training at the Jedi Academy. You will be thrown into missions as part of your training. You learn of a mysterious group that is a threat to the galaxy. So it is up to the Academy to find out who they are and what they’re doing.

- I saw two sabers and a double-bladed saber. Fact or fiction?
Fact! You will also get to choose your saber color and hilt. Eventually you’ll earn the option of having the saber staff or two sabers later in the game.
- Why not ALWAYS use the saber staff or two sabers?
With the saber staff (double-bladed saber) you can attack enemies behind you as well. However, you won’t be able to use Force powers that require the use of your hands. The same goes for those who use two sabers. However, there is talk of being able to sheath one saber so you can use Force. And with two sabers, you do double the damage. It looks as though you will not be able to use saber throw with the saber staff, but you will be able to throw one of two sabers, if you opt for that style of saber.
- So we get a saber from the beginning of the game?
Yes! It seems that they listened to the fans asking for more of the game to be played with the saber. And considering the name of this game is Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, it kinda makes sense.
- Any new weapons?
Well, some weapons from previous games are being brought back, like the DL-44 Heavy Blaster (Han Solo's gun) and the Concussion Rifle.
- I find that I am often evil and I have a real problem with having to play as a darn Jedi. Will there be a solution to this?
Yes! You will get to choose whether you will follow the Light or Dark side! Which means that the final outcome of the game/story will hinge on your decision. Yeah, so that means – two different endings! YAY!
- So will the game play be the same as JK2?
I’m so glad you asked! You get to actually choose what missions you want to go on. Of course, some missions are like, mandatory. But also, if you choose one mission and decide it’s just not going the way you want or you get frustrated, you can quit and choose another. So it’s a non-linear progression throughout the game. And you get to choose what Force power you’ll be training with and which weapons you’ll take with you on that mission. (Now, I’m not sure if that means that you’ll get to pick the mission and the Force power separately from themselves, or if each mission has its own Force power that is associated with it or something.) Oh, and not all missions must be completed for you to finish the game.

- Any new stances?
Yup. And with those new stances, come new specials. In fact, with the saber staff stance, you can kick in any direction.
- What about Force? New powers?
Not only a few new ones, but some of the old Force powers have been modified. And Force powers are now taken into account with some weapon combos and you can even combine some Force powers. For instance, there is one move that will allow you to use Force speed and you can run straight up a wall and then use Force jump to sort of vault backwards off the wall. One Force power mentioned, foresight, will be used to help you find hints for some puzzle-solving in the singleplayer. It will also help you see enemies behind walls. Other powers that have been mentioned as new or improved include Sense, Rage, Protection and Absorb.

- Anything new to the multiplayer (MP) part of the game?
One new game type is the Siege game, which will be objective-based multiplayer missions much like those in Counter-Strike. There will even be character specializations such as infantry trooper, demolitions expert and Jedi (with variations, like you can be all offensive with two sabers and stuff, or be more of a support for the team). Another new mode is called Power Duel where two people can take on one badass in a duel. Think: Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Unfortunately for those who lived for Capture the Ysalamiri, Jedi Master and Holocron FFA's, you will not be able to play them in JK3. Those game types are being removed because of their unpopularity and replaced with the two aforementioned new game types.

- We’re gonna get to ride a Tauntaun!?
Yes! Among other things, like the Scout Walker and there was even talk about a ride in a Jawa sandcrawler! There are more vehicles for you to ride/drive now. And AT-ST’s will be available in Multiplayer!
- Will all of this happen on Yavin 4?
No. You will get to visit some familiar places like Tatooine and Hoth.
- Will we see any other famous faces from Star Wars in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy?
Chewbacca is one who was mentioned, and there will most likely be others. Han Solo is a maybe.
- When does the game come out?
Fall 2003. Any specific months or dates you have heard are RUMORS, nothing more. LucasArts has been very deliberate about not committing to any dates.
- Are there any new saber moves (specials)?
They claimed to have doubled the amount of attacks, defenses, jumps and acrobatics for this game.
- What are the changes that have been made to the dynamics of saber combat?
Specifically, we don’t know. But it has been said that saber combat has been greatly enhanced since there is so much focus on the saber as the primary weapon in this game. I will say this, though: saber fighting is much faster with more combos and styles.
- How as the use of single saber been balanced againts the saber staff or the two sabers?
Only speculation here, but it seems as if the major balance here would be the freedom of Force powers if you use a single saber. But if there is no Force, then I have no idea.
- Any new NPCs? There are Monsters?
There will, of course, be stormtroopers but you’ll also see snowtroopers, a new type of Reborn, Tusken Raiders, Jawas and rancors, wampas – even a sandworm. And, OMG, it looks like bot routes have been improved – NPC’s can now move vertically (meaning, they can jump up to where you are on a bridge or ledge and kill you).
- Will there be any differences between the PC & XBox versions?
Not so much. They're trying to keep them exactly the same.
- Hey, what's up with the new interface - y'know - like the new Force meter thingys?
On the left meter, the green represents shields and the red represents your health (shown with a green or red bar and numbers, respectively). On the other side there you'll see a blue bar and number - that reads your force power. And the orange tells you your ammo count for the selected weapon in use. If you'll notice in some screenshots, it'll show you a dark, small arc on the inside of that right meter - that tells you what saber style you're using (blue, yellow or red). Oh, and if you're riding on a Tauntaun or using a vehicle of some kind, you'll see a meter in the middle of your screen that will show you your health, shields, weapon info and ammo levels.
- Oooo ... so can we like, detach the double-bladed saber and make it into two?
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having the option of choosing two sabers instead of the double-bladed saber? It is mentioned that there was a cheat used for that effect at E3. Will it be left in? Hmmm. We'll see.

- How mod-friendly will character creation be?
According to Kenn Hoekstra: "Using our skeleton, you can most likely fit Yoda or an Ewok to it with no problem. We also have other skeletons in the game that you will be able to fit geometry to. There is a scalability of the skeleton just as in the last game. Our new character creation system will allow modders to make their own clothing/skins which can be mixed and matched with existing skins from the game, or other mod created clothing. Any new sabers created by the community will drop right into the saber selection screen as well. The ability of the mod community to create custom characters has really been beefed up with the new system."

- So, is JK3 using the same mapping engine as JK2?
Yeah, not so much. In fact, this is not a Q3 terrain/mapping engine at all. Raven has ported over the Arioche terrain system from Soldier of Fortune 2, which allows for expansive terrain environments.
