Small Valley - File Description  

Well, this certainly is a simple map. It's a small valley.

So...Yeah...Basically that's it. You're in a small valley. At first glance it looks like it's just a plain valley. But wait! There's water in it! Very clear water, I might add, with four miniature statues in a circle around a force boon. This seems rather random, as the water isn't that deep in the area, and the statues are small. Couldn't we have something more like a secret underwater temple containing the force boon 'holocron'?

Okay, there was also a water wheel, and to what practical purpose it served, I don't know. You generally have a water wheel attached to something like a mill, but it's not here. And other than the fact that the water wheel looks out of place, the effects on it are inaccurate. The water flows under it, not over it. How is the wheel wrong? It's got massive watery (actually they look like steam) effects pointing downwards from the top. And then they also point from both sides. The water wheel effect would be better served using dripping water effects instead of steam effects, as steam effects don't look realistic. And then there's the skinning on the water wheel. Last time I checked, they were mostly made out of wood, and not some wierd bright brown brick-like texture that repeats. Sure, it might not be a 'normal' water wheel, but you could at least have made it look like it was made for the wheel instead of being cut from plywood. I"m sorry, but the water wheel could use a lot more work.

And then there's the night version. Basically, it's the exact same map, with only differences in lighting. It looks just fine except for those blasted water effects on the waterwheel. They stay white. They don't reflect the fact that it's night or day, they just stay white.

Just a few small side notes. I found a seemingly random academy shuttle way up high. Just a small, random thing. The rest of the map wasn't all that bad, although I did find the fact that it was kind of hard to get out of the water annoying. But that has to do with angles. Like all maps, this could use improvement, especially in the effects department.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Unpack *.pk3 file and throw it into /Base folder. Can't be simplier than that, mate :)

DESCRIPTION: Simple map designed for duel matches. It takes place in small valley crossed by also small river which starts from waterfall and ends in lake. There is also a bridge and under it a big wheel - water mill. As a bonus you get 2 versions of this map: one is at daylight and the second one is set at the dusk. Anyway, it's changed lighting.

BUGS: There shouldn't be any.

PROGRAMS USED: EasyGen 1.42, GTK Radiant 1.4, GIMP 2.2 (for one texture mentioned before and for levelshot images too).

The water flows under it, not over it.
I find it very normall, have you ever seen water above mill (floating water?)
The water wheel effect would be better served using dripping water effects instead of steam effects, as steam effects don't look realistic.
Well, IMHO they look very similar to effects used in Dungeon Siege game (when you first start that game, there is water mill shown, compare it plz).

Dungeon Siege is a pseudo-3D game with sub-par and unrealistic graphics. Not the template you want to use for a 3D map.

the water wheel is totally correct: there is a waterfall, so you have streaming water and teh water wheel is placed in there. I agree, mostly the place the wheel IN the waterfall but it wont make much of a difference. the water (steam like Zach said) on the wheel is wrong, because it isnt in a waterfall and the whell has nothing to carry the water up, the water will just get off, it wont be rotated around. (yeah i know english isnt my motehr language...)

about the map, when u jump in the waterfall, you get stuck at the wheel, you cant go past, you cant dive under and you cant get up the wall. Thats pretty annoying.

I see that you used Easygen in the creation of this map. The map would look better if you zoom in the textures. That way it looks less repetitive and the different textures blend better. In EasyGen when you have your landscape textured the way you want, go to Textures > Zoom In until you get it lookinng good. You can also use the Zoom Out choice below it to reverse your last zoom.

I know that Innocent Hawk. JSA_Hirato, you can go out from there only when you are single saber person and when make cart wheel move (go to the right side of mill as far as engine allows and after 2 cart wheel moves you should jump off that place into lake. I know, might be confusing thing, but during duel you are not going to fall there too often).

I actually liked this map a lot. It isnt the best in terms of eye candy, but for gameplay it was pretty good. The different hill elevations added a nice twist to some of the duels I played on it, so that was nice. Overall good job Warbird, I liked it smile 7/10.

could be mist like at the bottom of a water fall. but i doubt there's enough current in the river or lake to justify that.

there's no giant waterfall behind the wheel to make it spin, but it would look beautifull if there was one, like to fill in the space between the hills in screenshot1 with alot of mist at the bottom, then the left over mist (steam) in the wheel might be justified.

not bad, i would like to see a fixed (v2) of this one.

with a deeper lake and underwater temple like Zach mentioned.

i just saw your screenshots, i think i saw a tiny water fall between the hills, how about making it bigger , like all the way up to the hill tops. atleast twice as high as the wheel, to make it turn.

the small statues , im thinking its forced perspective, not meant to be seen up close. im sure your editing program can let you dig the lake deeper, for us to have fun in there. just have to try it ;-)
