Description:
OHMAHGAOUD, YAY, ISSABACK >_,<
So, anyone remember Rusty Bucket Bay's first version? Anyone? ...
Initiating Lazar...FAILED
...
Fine, be that way. Anyway, onto version 2 of awesomeness, Borm Kloon have utterly remade the powerfully fun and amusing Rusty Bucket Bay, from the game Banjo Kazooie, and whose predecessor I also had the pleasure of reviewing. This one, however, is MUCH more expanded. There's all sorts of areas from the game that you can find by
smashing certain objects, or entering secret doorways. As with the last one, the architecture and textures closely resemble what little I've seen out of the old N64 game.
There were only two issues I found with this map. The first one was a onesided brush on the puzzle piece cage. Not a big deal. The only other one was that in the small little boathouse, one could walk along the bottom of the water with impunity.
Besides those two issues, y'can't lose with this map. It's just too fun to pass up. Whether you've played Banjo Kazooie or not, I invite you to give this map a play, and take a swim in the bay. Isn't the water beautiful?...

FILESIZE: 61.9 mb
RELEASE : 22/05/2010
MAP NAME: rusty_bucket_bay
GAMETYPE: ffa, tffa

CREDITS: All credit goes to Rare.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Simply extract the bk_rusty_bucket_bay.pk3 to your JKA GameDatabase Folder.
-----------------------------------
DESCRIPTION: This is version 2 of Rusty Bucket Bay, It is based on the level from Banjo-Kazooie of the same name.
The map itself has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. This includes all the textures, brushes, sounds and music.
While the map itself isn't 100% accurate, it is pretty close for a JKA remake. Special thanks to anyone who played, downloaded
or generally had nice things to say about the previous version!
-----------------------------------
AESTHETIC FEATURES:
-----------------------------------
1. All new higher quality textures.
2. Shaders! (nearly every texture has a shader!)
3. Custom Skybox, custom water.
4. Improved lighting. (no longer fullbright, outdoor areas are lit by the skybox)
5. Scripts!
6. Improved scaling. (the map should be pretty close to the scale in the original game)
7. Greater detail. (simple graphic features that were ommited in the previous version have been added)
-----------------------------------
GAMEPLAY FEATURES:
-----------------------------------
1. Climable ladders. (getting out of the water used to be a problem in version 1)
2. Weapons, ammo and items! (can't have a true ffa without them!)
3. Fully functioning Engine Room! (it's pretty dangerous down there!)
4. Secrets! (can you find them all?)
5. Bridges (activate them by approaching the "Toll" symbol)
6. More Interactivity! (horns, whistles, exploding crates etc have been added for fun!)
7. Monsters! (some are active some are just for show)
9. More rooms! (addition rooms have been added, while old ones remain!)
10. Improved optimization (caulk, detail brushes, hinting and area portals etc have been used to greater effect!)
11. MULTIPLAYER BOTS!! (given the nature of the level, with the small windy platforms and masses of water, the bots are prone to
falling in, however they can activate the bridges and move across them, climb ladders and can generally find their way around pretty well.
It's probably the best you're going to get out of them... they just aren't that smart. They also can't go inside rooms, but this
is intentional).
-----------------------------------
GLITCHES/ERRORS/BUGS: Given the size and overall complexity of this version, I wouldn't be suprised if a glitch, error or bug
reared it's ugly head. However, I have yet to find anything myself after extensive testing. If you manage to find anything yourself
feel free to let me know.
GLITCHES IM AWARE OF:
The instant medpacks and disruptor rifle peek out a bit under the top bridge, this is most likely because they sit upon a brush that
has a thickness of 1. I've tried fixing it by hovering the items over the bridge, or sitting them flush to it, but no dice. It's minor
anyway and doesn't effect gameplay, so it's not really a problem.
I'm really only concerened with glaring issues such as getting outside the map, or bugs with teleporters or scripts.
-----------------------------------
ADDITIONAL NOTES: This entire project was just one big experiment, I took it on with the intention of testing not only
my own capabilities, but also that of GTKRadiant and JKA as well. I have learnt much during the creation of both versions
of this map, namely that GTKRadiant is powerful, yet buggy and ultimately an outdated pile of $%&*! not worthy to wipe my...
ahem! In any case, if I decide to release any more maps, the overall quality "should" improve dramatically.
-There are at least 8 secret areas to find in this map.
-Some doors and windows can be smashed, you'll have to experiment. (like last time)
-Only 3 areas from the original game were excluded this time around, simply because they were either tiny, crowded or just
plain boring from a gameplay perspective. These areas are the anchor room (underwater) and 2 of the blue cargo containers (left and right, you can enter the middle one).
ALSO! If you have the previous version of Rusty Bucket Bay still in your base folder,
DELETE IT! and let us NEVER! EVER! SPEAK OF IT AGAIN! (as far as I'm concerned, there is no Version 1!)

I knew it was only a matter of time, you should make the seasons section, that would be so much fun to play on. heck it even looks exactly like the original 10/10 buddy, keep it up |
