| Nivalis (v2) - File Description |
 |
Description: There is something about this map I really like. I think it's the weather. Nivalis is a decidedly snowy map. Not only is it snowy, but it's very much blizzardy. It's very difficult to see where you're going, so I was glad the author provided the screenshots else I might not have been able to find everything, even despite this map's relatively small size.
The map consists of two areas: a small, indoor section, and a much larger outdoor section. The indoor section is secluded from the snow falling outside, but as I mentions it is relatively small, so you will be quite vulnerable. Outside is a different story. The snow reduces visibility, and even despite the glowing lightsaber it's very difficult to see things at a distance. It will be far easier for you to sneak up on your foe. Of course it's easier for them to do the same, as well.
The map contains an interesting choice in music: Vivaldi. In fact, it is the Winter concerto from Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Fitting, it seems, given the swirling snow. There was one thing missing, though: ambient sounds. It was amazing to see so much snow falling, but no wind or other snow-related sounds. It was kind of disappointing, but probably not all that noticible for most people. The author also claims the map is meant for role-play. Whilst I'm sure that's what he had in mind, I personally can't see this map being great for role-play. Not only is 75% of it hard to see, but it's just not very interactive. It still seems like a great map for saber fights, though. Give it a try if you're looking for another good snow map.

one word---wow
be sure to use those target_speakers! you dont need a trigger or usable to get them to make soud! so keep that in mind.
Considering there's a big gaping Star Gate there, I imagine it's for Star Gate RPing.
At any rate, I will give this a download at some point. Maybe.
hmmm...i don't seem to recall a Nivalis v1...
on good weather and overall map!
all around a good map
cheers

Nivalis v1 was rejected by us because it was missing a read-me, plus a few textures were missing (on the models). The rejection gave the author time to fix the errors so his submission would be as good as possible .
w00t, as a big fan of SG i will definitely download this map !
All it is is a Gate in an ice cavern, and a snowy field with two... what Blizzard would call "doodads." One spire-like collection of stone, and a small stone slab on the ground. Needs wreckage of the ancient habitations, maybe a MALP model near the gate, stuff like that. Eyecandy, even. For such a well-developed (if short) background, I expected more of a map. Still, it's good work. I like the all-encompassing whiteness.
Item placement/weapons is the only flaw, if you think the placement of said entities more and maybe give this map more interactive features it will be a favorite.
Brush work is near perfect. A few new interesting details, maybe some consoles and more interactive entities such as elevators to enhance gameplay flow would push it along even more.
I'm a jk2 mapper so i don't know about weather features. All i know is that you've worked it out amazingly and this map will deffinately go in my base.
Kudos,
8/10
There wouldnt be wreckage, The backstory explains why
Ultimate props for using Vivaldi in the map - I'm going to be trying this map NAOW
I am sorry...everyone says this map is good but in reality it isn't...I am not trying to be mean but the stargate doesn't work... and its just a room basicly....very small... the thing about a stargate map is...the stargate should work...its the main point of a stargate map...
Nice textures and I love the music, great choice, it really brings out the snowy, mysterious, ancientish, feel to the map.
