NeoTokyo (JK2) - File Description  


Description:
Well, as some of you may know, I recently reviewed the trailer for this map, and have since been looking forward to playing it. And I can say this now, it doesn’t disappoint!

I must also say that Szico has managed to pull this great map together very quickly, I wish I could map that quick…I’m very slow stick out tongue

Having never played the game that this map is based of, I can’t really comment on its accuracy, what I can say though is that it looks, and feels brilliant to play! The textures are all very high quality, and are well used, there weren’t any that repeated too much, or looked out of place. One texture I especially liked was the road texture, putting a shiny env map on it was very clever, seeing as its raining in the map, it looks like the road is wet, very clever wink As for the construction of the map, just like Szico’s previous maps its very high quality, and there were no bugs that I could see

The architecture was very good, lots of nice little details scattered around. It really looks like somewhere you might find in a Tokyo type city. Some of the nice little details that I like were the signs scattered around which really added to the feel of the map, and also the little splashes the raindrops made when they hit the ground. A very nice touch that also added a lot to the feel and ambience of the map.

The music also fitted very well, and along with the rain and other effects, it added a great ambience to the map.

One other thing that really added to the map was the skybox. It’s usually pretty much hidden by all the buildings in the map, but if you look from certain angles (or you could just take a look at the skybox textures inside the .pk3) you can see all the lit up buildings on the skybox! I thought that was really cool wink

One area I especially liked was the arcade of shops that you could walk through, ok, perhaps the window displays are a bit bare (every other shop seems to sell weapons! ) but they still look cool smile Another area that I really liked was the sewers, I had great fun trying to find my way though there (maybe add some killer rats next time Szico…hehe).

Yet another thing that I liked, was the tram that periodically flies over one of the streets, I think that looked great, it’s just a shame you cant get in it!

I really think this is a great map from Szico, probably my personal favourite actually.

As for bugs or anything else wrong with the map, I really couldn’t see any, so well done to the author there! The only think I can really think of to do to this map, would be to maybe make it a bit bigger, or make it so that you could go inside some of the buildings.

All in all another well made map from Szico here, if you are a fan of Time Splitters, have been waiting eagerly for this map, or just like the look of it, why not give it a download! wink

Not many people release source files in the JKA community, that's something I'd expect more from EF mappers. Kudos for that one.

Anyway, great work Szico, this map is still drool-worthy as it was on the forums. I'll be sure to give it a test when I have time. wink

i can't help but notice that the leftmost character on top of the blue building in the first screenshot is ..upside-down!! hehe.. besides that, this map is very beautiful!!!

k if u know how to get on top of the buildings where u see Tokyo far down below move around alot and it will leave blurs on Tokyo 'cus i saw my person multiplied in to like 10 on the city below .
