Main Menu Title Music (Angus Dei) - File Description

Description:
I can't imagine most gamers really appreciate classic Latin church music (I mean Latin the language), even if it's in a movie or something that they've seen, so I really can't see why anyone would want to hear this particular song in their MP in-game starting menu. Personally I don't like this arrangement at all, and I am a fan of Latin church music. The words are indestinguishible, the harmonies are weak, and the melody is just boring. I've heard far better arrangements of Agnus Dei. This sounds more like a Gregorian chant. But to each his (or her) own.

For those of you unfamiliar with Agnus Dei (which I imagine is most of you), and you're curious what the words are, they should be something like this: Agnus dei quitolis pecata mundi miserere nobis dona nobis pacem. Latin church songs really are quite simple. They just repeat two or three sentences over and over again.

For Americans especially, who are pretty much isolated from the countries in Europe which speak the romantic languages (France, Italy, etc), we don't have a clue what the words mean anyway, so the fact that you can't even make them out in this arrangement probably won't matter. Whether or not you like the tune will really be the question here, so you'll have to check it out to find out. But if you know you really don't like church music or music similar to church music, don't bother downloading it.

For those of you who play single-player, this will conflict with some single-player level music. It would really be nice if, for once, this author would take that into consideration and remove such conflicts, considering it's as easy as opening up notepad and making a small change.

There I was, all excited that this was going to be the Gaelic epic "Angus Dei"--ie "Angus of God", with the bagpipe riff...... I am real disappointed now, it's only the sung Latin communion rite of the Roman Catholic church.

Still, if I listen hard enough maybe I can just make out the sound of the pipes there....

PS, if you are interested enough to read this facile comment then you may just want to know what it means.

"Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world: have mery on us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world: have mery on us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world: grant us peace."

I thought this was a beautiful peice. It may not be the greatest song for duels however (depending on the boss you are fighting or the setting the duel is taking place in). I still think by itself the song is so awesome.

Is Agnus Dei not part of Mozarts Reqium? I suppose it could be different, but unlikly, I can't see Mozart having somthing unoriginal in one of his symphonies.

There is no such thing as Angus Dei. It would have to be Agnus. Music of God, if you will. That's the music from Homeworld.

If it means anything to anyone, the actual piece is entitled Adagio for Strings, Op. 11 composed by Samuel Barber.

Actually, barber wrote a pice called Agnus Dei for vocal arrangement SATB based off his Adagio for Strings. So there's no need to be sarcastic.

Actually, I think if you put this piece with that rift screenshot, it would look rather nice and go well together.

In response to previous comments: First of all, Sith of Fish, Mozart did write and Agnus Dei. However, the Agnus Dei is technically just a religious text. In other words, there are many settings of this piece, including Mozart's and including Samuel Barber's, in this case. For anyone interested, I have to point out that this performance is not a great one. I know the music, and I can tell you the sopranos hit several high-notes quite flat in this. If you are looking for a good performance, I recommend you look up a Robert Shaw recording of this piece. Shaw is an amazing choral director. The one big flaw in this recording, though, is that they actually sing it much to fast. Shaw's recording is about half this speed, and unbelievably good. This should be a 10-minute piece, at least. Whew. That was a bit long-winded.
