Hyperbolic Time Chamber - File Description  


Description:
The first thing I asked myself upon seeing this map was; “A Hyperbolic Time Chamber…that sounds cool, but what on earth is it?!” and indeed you may be asking yourself the very same thing! Well after a bit of searching around, I found out that it was a location from the Dragon Ball anime series. I still have no idea what it does though, because I haven’t finished reading the article yet! stick out tongue Anyway, looking at the picture featured in that article I can definitely see that this is an accurate representation of this location, including those giant sand timers on either side.

I have to mention the sky however, as that is the part of the map that blew me away. Inspired by the sky in Rgoer’s ‘Docking tower Seven’ map, DarthStevenus here has made a fantastic looking sky, which swirls around the map and has some wonderful colours in it. In fact it kind of reminds me of an Aurora, or perhaps a winters evening when the sky is awash with many colours. So good job there mate! Two Thumbs Up!

The building in the middle of the map is pretty small, but like I said, it is an accurate representation of what appears in the anime series. You can walk off the edge of the paved area though, because there is an invisible floor around the map, so you won’t fall to your death. I must admit, the first time I tried this it was a bit of a weird feeling, since I am used to falling to my death when walking off the edge of what looks like solid ground! Another nice touch was the clock on the building…which runs backwards! Obviously something to with what the Hyperbolic Time Chamber does I presume.

As far as bugs are concerned, I couldn’t see any, although for improvements I would work a bit more on giving the textures a bit more depth, though I understand that they are supposed to look animated. Its just that they look a little too flat in places.

Overall though a very cool nap here, I especially loved the music, which fits perfectly with the map, and is from the Dragon Ball series itself. What more could you ask for! big grin

COMMENTS: I was just messing around with this map as a way for me to kill time over Thanksgiving break. However after polishing it up a little I decided to release it.

Maybe you could have added a more intense gravity (i remember one of the dbz characters mentioning that it's hard to move) but nevertheless, this map is a perfect represetantation (spelling?) of the hyperbolic time chamber in dbz, 10/10.

I thought that that part of high gravity was when Goku went training after sacrificing himself to kill Raditz on that tiny planet with the blue guy and the monkey (whose names I forget... it's been many a year since I've watched anything DB related >_>wink.

But anyway, a good job here, it will serve as a great training ground for me and my hundreds of soldier minions. =_,=

You know, the really funny thing is that i was making a hyperbolic time chamber too -_-... oh well i guess, also... in dbz there was no skybox!!!!!!!!!! just white!

Yeah, I thought about that but it just looked much too bland. So I figured I'd make a skybox similar to the ones in the budokai games for ps2. Thanks for a good review Nozy!

It's a common map to get modded, it's got to be one of the top most recognizable locations within Dragon Ball so you probably saw it as a playable map for another game, or perhappes a Dragon Ball total convertion...

It is "usually" a giant blank white space, but There isn't a rule to how the background of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber is supposed to look like, it changes from time to time, may go from hot as hell to a blizzard storm, may get dark or not...

I beleave the scenario changes in a matter of seconds in the middle of a battle betwen Gotenks and Buu (altho I'm not a fan of anything after the Cell games)

Sorry, I don't really like it. It doesn't look realistic. You may say "its ANIME", but still, you don't want to walk around in a map that looks like from an anime.

#8: You could if you are using the cell-shaded characters stick out tongue Interesting, I wouldn't mind seeing more anime-based maps. The problem with doing really fancy maps from anime is that the JKA engine is really stretching its limits these days.

I'm with #11... Too bad the story went a bit south after the Cell games... Yea... I just remembered that the background is spot on for the old Budokai games.

For those that don't know, The Hyperbolic Time Chamber was used durring the time just before the Cell Games began.

It is said that if someone used it, they could get a year's worth of training in a single day! Vegeta & Trunks were the first ones to use it which is how Vegeta got strong enough to change to Super Vegeta...

Anyway, Goku & Gohan went in next which was when Gohan was able to learn how to go Super Saiyan by using what is called the Pain of Loss.

Ok... Let me explain Pain of Loss: It means to imagine all the people you care for being hurt or killed and focus on the pain thereby using the anger to transform into a Super Saiyan...

Anyhoo... Goku realises Gohan's hidden power while training and believes that only Gohan has the power to destroy Cell.

and the rest is DBZ history!

I hated dragon ball z it was a lame show but this is an okay map 7/10
