| Green Leader - File Description |
 |
Description: I remember once saying that there were some suitable instances for recoloring. This is one of those instances. Why make a totally new skin for something that looks exactly the same as something that exists, but is a different color. I must admit, though, that when I saw this I worried that perhaps recoloring it green was all he did, but luckily I was surprised in a good way!
What makes this skin great is that it is an A-wing pilot, but it's not just an A-wing pilot. It also has team support (Yellow Leader and Grey Leader, instead of just a red and blue version), and the faces are each different. That right there was my big concern. Sure it may not be the easiest thing to see, but a recolor of the rebel pilot with the same face would've been a little silly. I'm glad to see the author but in that little bit of effort.
I do wonder, though, if the author didn't put more effort into the read-me than the actual skin! He even went as far as to put mini biographies of each of the characters these skins are supposed to represent inside of his read-me. Gotta say, Horton Salm... that guy's a real jerk
Bot Support: Yes

== Mod Information ==
I'm surprised no one's made these skins yet (at least no one to my knowledge)-- they seem so obvious. They're three pretty simple straightforward recolors, inspired by characters from the Original Trilogy, that took me practically no time at all. Of course, they're not entirely accurate to what was seen in the movies-- Gold Leader's flightsuit was actually orange, while Green and Grey Squadron had radically different helmets than that of the Rebel Pilot model. And I don't have the skills or the software to create new player models... but if this inspires a competent modeler to make accurate Green and Grey Leader models, then that's good enough for me.
In any case, Here's what you get in this pk3:
-Green Leader skin
-Gold Leader and Grey Leader as red and blue team skins
(they're not really red or blue at all, but you want team support, right?)
-Green Leader bot support for all you 56kers
-Green leader and Rebel Pilot npcs:
/npc spawn greenleader
/npc spawn rebelpilot (doesn't exist in the base game... weird, huh?)
-and a thoroughly informative readme, featuring mini-bios of the characters:
Green Leader - Arvel Crynyd
Arvel Crynyd was the leader of A-Wing Green Squadron during the Battle of Endor. Towards the end of the battle, as the Imperial Fleet moved closer to the Death Star in an attempt to trap the rmaining Rebel ships, Crynyd's A-Wing took heavy damage during an assault on the Super Star Destroyer Executor. Green Leader flew right into the bridge of the Imperial flagship, killing himself as well as Admiral Piett instantly. This caused the Executor to fly out of control and crash into the Death Star, thus turning the tide at the Battle of Endor.
His name was later applied to a Medal of Bravery, which was one of the New Republic's most prestigious honours. An Imperial-class Star Destroyer captured at Milagro was also renamed the Crynyd in his memory.
Gold Leader - Jon "Dutch" Vander
Years before Lando Calrissian led Gold Squadron at the Battle of Endor, Jon Vander was one of the senior pilots of the Rebel Alliance. He was trained at the Imperial Academy as a fighter pilot, but during one of his missions as a TIE Bomber pilot, he discovered the true nature of the Empire's ideals. Ordered to bomb his home planet of Wayland, he simulated a failiure in his Bomber and aborted the mission. He managed to escape the Imperials and joined the Rebel Alliance. He became Gold Leader and was assigned to a Y-Wing, flying several campaigns for the Alliance with Gold Squadron.
During the Battle of Yavin, Dutch led the first group who flew into the Death Star trench. He appointed Gold Five as point, who was followed by Gold Leader and Gold Two, forming a buffer for enemy fighters. Gold Leader decided that the three fighters should stay close together to make the mission a success; this is typical for a TIE fighter formation. As Gold Two adjusted his deflector screens, Darth Vader shot him down, causing Gold Leader to panic. Vader shot down Dutch's Y-Wing, killing him instantly.
Grey Leader - Horton Salm
Horton Salm was a Y-Wing pilot in the Battle of Endor. He was forty years old at the time and was leader of Aggressor squadron. He survived the battle and was eventually promoted to the rank of general.
Being far too old to fly in combat, Salm would later be in charge of Defender Squadron, though not as a pilot; even before the Battle of Endor, he was balding and into his forties. Salm knew that the battle of Endor would be his last, and succeeded in convincing the Rebel leadership to let him fly. Salm repeatedly runs into the members of Rogue Squadron, and he does not get along very well with X-Wing pilot Wedge Antilles, the squadron's leader.

a simple but well done reskin

Man, my downloads are slowing to a crawl here, and this is just getting farther and farther down the list. After reading Inyri's review, I thought I'd maybe have a shot at one of the Featured File slots, thus getting a bit more traffic... but considering the massive pile of really good stuff that's come out so far this week (Cloud Strife, the V-Wing, that Bagrotul creature thing, the XaoXing skins, and a James F'n Culley map pack, among others), and it's only Wednesday, I'd say getting Featured File status is a pipe dream. Looks like my chances of breaking the 100-download mark any time soon are slim to none.
So I guess it wouldn't hurt to spill the beans to the handful of you who actually downloaded this: if you type model rebel_pilot/biggs into the console, you can play as a reasonable facsimile of Biggs Darklighter. Or if you'd like a Biggs NPC to help you, armed with a Heavy Repeater rifle, type /npc spawn biggs
Simple concept, brilliantly executed.
I lOve This sKin ! gOoD wOrk !
Great Skin! The Gold Leader skin is good.
10/10
Anyway, Is It okay IF I borrow the Gold Leader skin? Because I am planning to make mod of skins and upload it at jediknight3.filefront.com. I will give specials thanks to you if I borrow it when I release my mod.
