Drakseye - File Description

Description:
Ah a Desann reskin! I always loved Desann despite his cocky attitude. He always had this look that said: "I eat my macaroni and cheese cold with the cheese powder mixed with milk in a cup and the noodles dry and hard."

This reskin is very simple, but there are also varients. Each of which is a very simple conserved reskin. The armor is a bit dark and hard to see detail, but that's not too much of a problem. The reskins were done well, and it's clear there was effort on the author's part.

Overall, it's really a good skin. I can't say too much about it simply because of its conserved skinning, but I believe the screenshots can speak for themselves.

JEDI KNIGHT ACADEMY MODIFICATION
***************************

Title :drakseye (original concept)

Modeling/Skins :WK Baldwin "Cable"
E-Mail :wkbaldwin@hotmail.com

File Name/File Size :drakseye (6.01 Mb)

Date Released :11/07/2006

Description: This is an original skin for the Desann model. I was looking at the Desann model and the way it was skinned and thought that it needed something different so I created a black and red contrasting skin which resulted in Drakseye. I made use of shader to give the black more depth and the metal more shine. I also added a blue version named Drakcie. To top it off I quickly modified the original Desann skin to give more depth and got rid of the armored arm like the Drakseye skin. On the surface this may not look like I did extensive skinning but I updated the original skin by adding scales to the skin and you have to get up close to notice them on the face and neck. I also went to great lengths to give the clothing and armor texture which is difficult to piece together on black and make it look right. I could still improve it I am sure but after much tweaking I decided to let it go for now. I also added the original Desann sounds from Jedi Outcast so that the character sounds match up better instead of the default reborn sounds. I hope you enjoy the skin as much as I enjoyed making it.

Credit: I would like to thank NeoMarz1 for his inspiring work and for the readme example. I did use the Desann sounds from Jedi Outcast but I have read that this is ok at this time. Feel free to modify it to your liking.

***Trouble shoot***

Usually there are only a few errors make that cause problems. Here are the most common...
1) Not using the proper console commands for "Single Player" or "Multiplayer"... cheats are acivated differently for each. Read "Instructions" up above.
2) Having the pk3 placed in the wrong folder.
3) Make sure you have the latest Jedi Knight Academy update, this is very important!
4) sometimes the model will not show up in the select menu, The Game loads them in reversed alphabetical order, so Yoda should show up in the top. If not you may just have too many models. You can rename the pk.3 to Z_something, and this will put it at the top.

It's good to see this up so soon. This is not a slam on the comments above by the reviewer but I can assure you this is not a simple reskin. I spent alot of time modifying this skin to give it a sense of realism. I know that the glowing skins and such are very popular and are eye catching but that's not what I shoot for in my skins unless it makes sense to do so. This skin is all about detail and relies on shaders to give it the proper effect. What I found out with this skin is that many maps are not properly lit even some of the really nice looking maps. For instance sunset on coruscant is a beautiful map but it doesn't light the character models very well so all of the characters are very dark and flat looking for the most part. Another problem is the end users settings. If you run everything on low settings and turn off the bells and whistles this type of skin is not that great. It's kind of like turning bump mapping off in doom 3. If your the type of person that likes to max out your settings in game then I hope that you give this a try. Thanks for any comments good or bad.

Best Desann reskin I ever seen, good work man. 10/10 from me, keep it up.

#3 - Excellent work - Posted by: edenist (Member) on 11-11-2006 at 03:05
Wow, I must say im very impressed with the work you have done here :-D
Getting up close, the detail is really great. The shader work really brings it out, especially on the armour [the scales on the gauntlets come up great].
Also great to get the desann sounds back from JO too!

Keep up the great work! 10/10 Rock

Thank you for the remarks so far. I really enjoy the feedback from the community. I have a new saber hilt that will be reviewed and released soon I hope that goes with Drakseye. I am currently working on a skin for the samurai model that may take some time but It will be a completely new look. I am looking at Matsurugi from Soul Calibur for my inspiration but I will obviously have to compromise on certain aspects to get the right look. Thanks for the support.

I was actually looking at the Kit Fisto model awhile back but passed on it for lack of inspiration but I might look at it again in the near future.
