| Forge Lightsaber Hilt - File Description |
 |
Description: Okay, when I saw this, it kind of reminded me of a club. Or some other bludgeoning weapon. But, that's just my first impression, it's actually a nice saber.
First off, it's supposed to show the inner workings of a lightsaber. While I've never really been concerned about that, it's a nice thing to be able to see. On to the details of the hilt.
It looks blocky, which, being something of a fledgling modeller myself, is explainable. You need some space to work in. Although I would have scaled it down a bit, that's just me. But I must admit, if you want your saber to show its inner workings, you would want it to be a bit bigger, so you'd actually be able to see how it works!
One problem that I saw was that the blade itself goes through half the saber! And I mean the actual final blade. So, that's the one small problem that I was able to see.
Inyri has also given the option of overriding a default saber! I love it when people do this, as I get sick of the old sabers.
So, if you like this, give it a download!

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
--------------------------
Put saber_forge.pk3 in your gamedata/base directory within your Jedi Academy directory.
If you would like the single_1 overwrite (read below) place saber_forge_overwrite in your gamedata/base directory within your Jedi Academy directory. This file requires saber_forge.pk3 to function.
------------
DESCRIPTION
------------
I came up with a concept for a hilt that showed a 'window' into the inner workings of a lightsaber. After some research, I created what I believe to be an accurate representation of some of the parts of the lightsaber: the primary and secondary focusing crystals (and their mounts), the energy channeler, and the right and left energizers. There is also a second blade (which is untoggleable) that runs through the focusing crystals.. This is the beam that eventually becomes the larger blade we all see jutting out of lightsaber hilts.
An optional overwrite (of the saber single_1) is also included. If you decide you want it to overwite a different saber, do the following:
-open saber_forge_overwrite.pk3 and extract single_1.sab from ext_data>sabers
-change the file name to single_x.sab (x being the number you want to overwrite)
-open the file and change the first line which says "single_1" to "single_x" where x is once again the number you want to overwrite
-save and place back into the PK3

SPAWN INFORMATION
----------------------
The main hilt is designed to be purple, but since the crystal color is almost impossible to see in-game I opted not to change it. If I thought it was going to be visible I would have, believe me. It'll look fine regardless of what blade color you choose.
To use this in singleplayer, use the following command:
saber saber_forge

BUGS

No bugs to speak of, that I've found.

COMMENTS

This is kind of my personal hilt, but I'll probably never use it. I just kind of wanted to make something I designed myself rather than copying something. As you might've notice, I prefer a somewhat simpler style. No blades or spikes jutting out. Sorry :p

i was about to say that!
Makes sense
Nice! (And I'm not just saying that because Inyri made it )
Too big and little to simple for my taste, 6+/10
looks nice, but it htink ur other models were better
hmm i think its cool to see the beam starts inside the saber... as Zach said, i would have made it smaller, even if its big so you can see the details inside...
and i dont like sabers looking the same at both edges, unless its a double-bladed saber.... other then that, this looks cool!!!
Its good, but when youve got a great big ol' brick like that to smack 'em with what do you need a lightsaber for lol
8/10
Not me. I think what Zach was trying to say is that the blade inside the hilt is all well and good, but that you shouldn't be able to see the glow of the saber through the opaque part of the hilt. That would take some weird energy-permeable construct in the hilt. Now then. Awesome hilt, Ms. Forge, though I agree that it's slightly large for a one-handed blade.
You do have a point, Omegamatt, but, there's nothing anyone can do about that aside from moving the blade tag, but if Inyri had done that, the hilt would have been imbalanced against other sabers. It's cause and effect:
Cause: The modified Q3 engine which JKA runs on is a piece of s***.
Effect: There are little issues like that with mods that can't be fixed and we all have to live with them.
So, basically, in theory we shouldn't see the glow through the opaque areas, but in reality, the game doesn't know that the glow will appear through the opaque areas because it's not designed to consider it.
Nice hilt Inyri. Not going in my collection, because I hate the design. It's *really* not my style, but then again, it's not a longsword, sniper rifle or grenade launcher. Go figure.
But, it's definitely a well-made hilt.
8/10 (Well, 7.5 really, but as they say - "5 and above, round up like a dove!"

There was another way to do the blade, which I had done originally, but it was a much more irritating method, and increased the size of the file by over tenfold.
I do agree it's a little chunky, though. One of my big flaws as a modeller - I have very bad sense of size .
considering you made the Buster Sword and Soul Edge. You ever give any thought to making Soul Calibur (Sigfried's SCIII version) as well? I could get you pictures of it if necessary.
I'm sorry, I can't get myself to like it. I don't like the design, although I love the part where you can see the crystal and the saber. 6/10.
Nice saber Forge 5/5
